Another awesome brewery visit and this one is in my hometown, Pittsburgh! Church Brew Works is a Catholic church converted into a brewery. They brew the beer up on the altar and some of the seating is in church pews. It’s definitely one of the most unique brewery set-ups I’ve ever seen. It’s located in the city near the famous Strip District. The beer was also very delicious, and it is award winning: Church Brew Works recently won several medals at the Great American Beer Festival!! I sampled the following beers: Celestial Gold, Pipe Organ Pale Ale, Pious Monk Dunkel, the rotating stout (which was a pumpkin stout) Thunderhop (IPA), and their seasonal Christmas beer. All beers were excellent and the food was good too! I will definitely go back to Church Brew Works again!
I went to Weyerbacher Brewing Company last week to visit their tasting room (in Easton PA). The brewery is best known for their barelywine Blithering Idiot and tripel Merry Monks. I tried several beers but my favorites were: Double Simcoe IPA, Old Heathen ( imperial stout), and Aries (which is a mix of the Old Heathen and Imperial Pumpkin Stout). The Aries is part of their Brewers Select Series and is 8% ABV. Perfect! I love beer mixing combinations!
They also had awesome Tech shirts about earning your beer, so of course I had to buy one, it was pretty much made for me! (pictured below). Went to Sly Fox Brewery in Phoenixville over the weekend and had a sampler. The six beers I tried were: Dunkel Lager, Dunkel Weisse, Can Jam Lager, Chester County Bitter, Black Raspberry Reserve, and my favorite Saison Vos. The food at the brewery has been excellent both times I have been there (and yes I definitely indulged in a cheat meal both times). Excellent deals on growler fills if you live locally, unfortunately it was a bit of a haul for me from the city. It was a nice trip getting on the turnpike and seeing all the beautiful fall leaves.
Last weekend nine of my friends and I did a blind taste of 14 different pumpkin beers. Before looking at the beers we tried and our results I would just like to add that the most expensive beer of the 14 is Southern Tier Pumking. It is very well known and quite expensive. The least expensive beer is the Stegmaier Pumpkin Ale which is a brewery none of us had ever heard of before and was only $23 for a case. That is very cheap for craft beer! Craft Beer Enthusiasts prepare to be amazed by the results: This weekend I celebrated my 27th birthday about a week early with an awesome group of friends on Saturday night. My birthday is really next week, but we have a semi destination wedding next weekend and if you love your birthday as much as I love mine then you would understand I like to have my own special party/celebration. After going to an arts festival with some of my best friends on Saturday afternoon we went to dinner where I had one of my favorite beers, Sweet Baby Jesus. DuClaw Brewery is located in Maryland and this is my favorite beer from them. Who wouldnt love a chocolate peanut butter beer??? After dinner we continued celebrating with a party and fire pit at my house. It was perfect :) Happy Monday!!
Yesterday I had a hair appointment in Yardley (yes it was a Groupon, don't judge me) and I was an hour early! I am never early for anything... Philly traffic was for once non-existent. Conveniently Vault Brewing Company was located just across the street! I went in an enjoyed a Sweet Potato Ale and chatted with bartender Alex who informed me Vault's one year anniversary is Oct 11th. They will have a party at the brewery and release there first bottled beer! Definitely an event worth checking out! Happy Friday!!!
Gone are the days that Thursday meant late nights out... being a real person is lame but at least my body is healthier! I usually save my drinking night for Saturday but for those of you that like to indulge a little earlier here is an awesome beer to try! Atwater Brewery's Vanilla Java Porter is definitely one of my top ten favorite beers. The brewery is located in Detroit. The beer itself has a fantastic aroma and just the right amount of sweetness for a dark beer. I'm so glad its fall and dark beer season is back!
My first beer post will be one of the newest beers on the market, and it's a pumpkin beer! Lancaster Brewing Company just came out with a pumpkin beer called Baked. It has excellent notes of vanilla and spices as well as a solid pumpkin flavor. LBC is also close to my heart because it is my fiancé's company.
